Manchester United’s defeat to West Ham was frustrating for both fans and players involved.

Ruben Amorim still cannot crack the Premier League with Manchester United now going seven straight league matches without a win.

West Ham won 2-0 at Old Trafford with Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen scoring the goals for the visitors. It was the first time the Hammers have won there in 18 years.

United had plenty of possession and created enough chances to win the match, but once again wastefulness cost the Red Devils crucial points.

A 17th league defeat of the season leaves United slumped in 16th in the Premier League table.

Bruno Fernandes vents frustration at Man United teammate

It is no secret that United are prioritising the Europa League and have been for weeks now. The final takes place in exactly 10 days against Tottenham.

While Amorim did rest some key players, he still named a very strong lineup against West Ham, including Kobbie Mainoo starting as a No.10.

According to Manchester Evening News, Bruno Fernandes “had a very animated moan” at Mainoo just 13 minutes into the clash.

United’s captain appeared to be frustrated at Mainoo’s positioning, with Amorim’s lineup suggesting that Fernandes should be dropping deep while Mainoo plays a more advanced role.

United fans also questioned Mainoo’s position and wondered where his future lies in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

The Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo dilemma

It is not the first time this season that there has been uncertainty about the positions of Fernandes and Mainoo.

Naturally, Fernandes has often played in a more advanced role since joining United but this season he has also thrived deeper in midfield where he can dictate play.

Mainoo has played as a striker under Amorim, but he has enjoyed some of his best performances in a No.10 position.

Amorim still seems unsure about Mainoo’s ability in central midfield, which raises plenty of questions about his future at the club and where he will play long-term.

Despite reports in January that he was up for sale, United are progressing with Mainoo’s contract talks and it seems the 20-year-old is now closer to staying than leaving.

However, Amorim will quickly need to decide where he fits best.
