The game never really got going, with Arsenal scoring two goals from corner situations which were their only real chances in the game – which is a testament to United’s defensive structure which Matthijs de Ligt is proud of.
Amid the disappointing result, there were positives such as Leny Yoro making his debut, while Tyrell Malacia made his comeback in the Premier League.
Another positive was the performance of Harry Maguire.

Harry Maguire impressive for Manchester United
This was Maguire’s first start under Amorim, and against a dangerous Arsenal side, he rolled back the years and looked very impressive for United.
The 31-year-old was handed 59 minutes as he amps up his return to full fitness – before being replaced by Yoro who impressed United fans.

Maguire was almost flawless defensively as he won all his duels and tackles – playing a key role as United shut out the Arsenal attack for a long period of the game.
This performance from Maguire is one we have been accustomed to over the years – and will absolutely put him firmly in the conversation to start against Nottingham Forest.
Clear message to Ruben Amorim and Ineos
Maguire returned as a cameo against Everton before starting against Arsenal and has instantly impressed.
This is the perfect start for Maguire in his bid to convince Ineos and Amorim to hand him a new contract ahead of 2025 with just seven months remaining on his deal.
Maguire joined the club five years ago for £80m and ignoring the transfer fee which was beyond his control, has been a great servant for the club.
Now, he will be hoping his performances in the next few weeks and months will tempt the decision-makers into extending his stay at the club.
