Sergio Romero left Manchester United as a free agent during the summer and signed for Serie A outfit Venezia.
He has played in every league game since his arrival in October, as Venezia battle to beat the drop from Italy’s top flight.
According to reports from Italy, another former United player is set to join him at the Serie A club.
Di Marzio claim that Nani, who won the Champions League at Old Trafford in 2008, is set to make the move. It would represent a return to Europe for the winger, who has been in MLS with Orlando City since 2019.
Nani still with plenty to offer
Nani has been without a club since announcing he was leaving Orlando in November when his contract, but at 35, he feels he can still do a job in European football.
The report claims that he was also offered to fellow Serie A clubs Bologna and Genoa, but it is Venezia who have firmed up their interest.
The transfer is not yet done, but talks are well down the line in terms of finding a deal which works financially.
The report claims he may already be in Italy to complete a medical and be on hand to sign the contract once the paperwork is all complete.
Did Nani and Romero ever play together at United?
Van Gaal reshaped United’s squad in a major way, offloading many players who remained from the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Romero was a reliable backup goalkeeper for David de Gea, but never got the chance to establish himself on a regular basis.
His final season at the club did not progress in a way which showed respect for the good servant Romero was for the club.
He was frozen out by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Dean Henderson came back to the club after loan and did not play a single minute of football in 2020/21.
It is good to see that he has got a new lease of life and Nani is also set for an Indian summer to his career in European football. Together, they will hope to keep Venezia safe in Serie A and perhaps some United fans will keep an eye on their progress with interest.
