Manchester United made one change at half-time against Wolves, bringing on Luke Shaw for Alex Telles.
This was the second time in Telles’ last two starts that Shaw has been brought on to replace him, while Shaw has been picked from the start in three of the last five games.
Telles was the new signing United fans have been excited about, and he certainly has plenty more to offer. Right now though, Solskjaer does not seem convinced Shaw is an inferior option.
To Shaw’s credit, he has earned these opportunities. He has been playing very well, and impressed when he came on for the second half against Wolves.
An injury prompted the substitution, with Solskjaer telling the club website: “It was a shift in positions and a different dynamic. Alex should be okay.”

Strong display
Shaw created two chances, and his link up helped United get forward. Telles did not make any key passes, although he did deliver two dangerous crosses in the first half which did not quite find a teammate.
In the second half Shaw won two aerial duels, made one tackle, and one interception. Telles was a zero in all three categories.
Solskjaer felt Shaw could make a positive contribution and he certainly stood firm defensively as United kept a clean sheet in a hard fought 1-0 victory.
Competition from Telles has helped Shaw kick on. He looks more focused, and he has added a threat from corners to his own armoury.
The challenge for Shaw is staying fit all season long, and so it is good to have Telles as an option. Solskjaer will continue to rotate them through the season, but will be delighted at the way Shaw has responded.
