While attention was on Manchester United’s transfer moves last weekend and on deadline day, it was also a big one for a young academy midfielder.

Slovakian youngster Martin Svidersky scored his first ever goal in a Red Devils shirt, netting for the under-18 side in the derby with City.

This is Svidersky’s second season of action in United’s academy. Two years ago he signed, then suffered an ACL injury.

After returning to action for the under-18s last season, he has progressed to the under-23s, and is currently flitting between the two.

Svidersky has been captaining the under-18s in the two games he has played, and his goal in the 2-1 defeat to City was his first at any level for the club.

Days later he celebrated his 18th birthday, and posted a throwback image of himself as a kid, wearing a Manchester United kit.

Svidersky’s picture shows he is living his dream, having grown up a United fan in Slovakia.

He was on the books of FC Tatran Presov before United snapped him up at just 16.

The early knee injury suffered weeks later was a tough blow, mentally as it was physically, but Svidersky is back on track.

He is a leader in central midfield for the under-18s, and he has also been filling in at left-back for the under-23s amid injuries.

This season at all levels including EFL Trophy games he has played five games already.

It’s too early to say whether Sviderksy will make the first team, but he is enjoying every moment right now and living his dream.

United will give him every chance he needs to reach the next level over the next couple of years.
