Another of Manchester United’s young loanees has now returned to Carrington with his loan move cancelled.
This season, Ineos had sent a handful of young talents on loan and this week has seen the end for a few youngsters.
Elyh Harrison’s loan with Chester was a resounding success and Manchester United have now recalled him. Immediately after returning, Harrison has since been spotted in first-team training, where he is expected to remain.
Manchester United have also seen the return of striker Joe Hugill this week, albeit under different circumstances to Harrison.
While United’s young goalkeeping prodigy was too good for his loan in the National League North – Hugill has actually been sent back by Wigan.

Joe Hugill returns to Manchester United
Hugill scored five goals and assisted once for Wigan in his 18 games at the club – just 889 minutes – which is a very solid record. However, after being used as a key player, Hugill’s minutes dropped in recent weeks.
Now, explaining the decision to send Hugill back to United, Wigan boss Shaun Maloney explained to Wigan Today it was not a decision due to the player’s performance.
“It’s a budget-related decision really,” said Maloney. “I think he’s done really well here, I’ve really enjoyed working with Joe, and I think there’s even more development in Joe.
“In fairness to him, over the last 10 games or so, Dale Taylor has been in really, really good form, and I know Joe needs to play games.
“He was always going to leave us if Dale kept his place, which he did…although I still would have liked to have kept him.
“I know we’ve signed Will Goodwin, but Joe is a very different profile to him, but we can only carry two ‘9s’ at the moment.
“So that’s the decision…it’s nothing to do with performance, or how we trained…we can only carry two ‘9s’ and that’s the decision.”
What next for Joe Hugill?
Despite Hugill’s loan coming to a disappointing conclusion, there were some promising moments for Hugill during his time at Wigan which should bode well for him landing another loan.
Maloney was clearly impressed by Hugill, with the exciting prediction that the 21-year-old forward has more levels to go.
Hugill has shown he can score goals at a League One level which is where we would expect he will be hoping to conclude the season.
A loan seems to be Hugill’s main option, considering he is too old for academy football – with Chido Obi and Gabriele Biancheri likely rated higher at the moment anyway.
Hopefully, Hugill can find another loan – somewhere where he will be a starter regularly and can become the main man up front.
With every loan Hugill has improved, and so we are excited to see what he can achieve on his next adventure beyond the gates of Carrington.
