Manchester United fans react to Sam Mather's England under-18s assist
Manchester United rarely lack talented prospects and right now the academy is overflowing with exciting talent.
The most promising player to break out this season is wonderkid Sam Mather.
Mather has been prolific in terms of creating and scoring goals for the under-18s, and has even made his under-23 debut at the age of 17.
Last night he provided an assist as England’s under-18s side beat Portugal.
Mather ran at the defence from midfield before feinting one way, and passing the ball off in the opposite direction for his teammate to score.
This follows up a goal Mather scored from the edge of the box against Netherland last week, and an assist against Norway last month.
Mather’s contributions were praised by his Manchester United academy teammates, who flocked to his Instagram page to praise his exploits.
These included Dan Gore, who was also part of the England under-18s side which beat Portugal along with Mather.
Mather has been a great watch for the academy so far this season, contributing at a prolific rate.
The teenager has scored four goals and has provided a team leading seven assists.
These efforts will bring him even more confidence for when he returns to action for United’s academy this weekend.
United supporters like what they see from the teenager and praised his latest assist…

So much more to come
If Mather is permitted to carry on in United’s under-18s side the rest of the season he could rack up some scarily high numbers.
He marked his first goal of the season back in August with a Cristiano Ronaldo ‘Siu’ celebration. It left him with a lot to live up to, and the young winger is doing his best to prove he is a special talent too.
The best aspect of Mather’s performances is that he makes the players around him better, with striker Manni Norkett benefitting from his assists, as did Joe Hugill for the game he dropped back down to the under-18s.
United’s under-18s return to action this weekend at 12pm away at Burnley, while the under-23s visit Derby on Friday at 7pm.
