Manchester United have made a loan decision on an academy player who has had an impressive start to the season.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United kicked off their season with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford thanks to a late Joshua Zirkzee goal.

Before United’s victory over Fulham, pre-season was a positive one for the Red Devils with multiple academy players making a name for themselves including Toby Collyer, who came on as a substitute against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

In Ten Hag’s time at Old Trafford, the Dutchman has always been willing to give academy players chances to impress and more players could be set to breakthrough this season. It now appears that United have made a decision about one player in particular.

Man United make Ethan Ennis loan decision

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, United have decided that Ethan Ennis will not go out on loan this summer but could in January to get more first-team experience.

Ennis only signed a new deal at Old Trafford last month as his previous deal with the Red Devils expired in 2025 and United were keen to hold onto the Englishman.

It’s understood United have decided it’s best for Ennis’ development for him to spend the first half of the season with the Under-21s before the situation is assessed in January.

Ennis suffered a nasty anterior cruciate ligament injury back in October of 2022 but the academy graduate has got back up to speed impressively for the Red Devils.

The 19-year-old scored in the U21s’ opening game of the season against Arsenal and scored again on Tuesday night when producing the goal that sparked a 3-2 comeback win for United against Barnsley.

Ennis could have a breakthrough season in men’s football

The academy star was unlucky to miss out on the US tour squad after the teenager impressed against Rangers and Rosenberg before the squad flew out to America.

It is incredibly impressive the way Ennis is now kicking on after a serious injury and is showing explosiveness and sharpness with his performances, demonstrating his pace and ability to beat a player.

According to the report from the Manchester Evening News, his professionalism during training has not gone unnoticed from those at Old Trafford and he could be another name that could be given a first-team chance under Erik ten Hag if he continues on this trajectory.

United will reassess Ennis’ role in the squad and may consider a loan in January.
