Manchester United have loaned out nine players in the 2024/25 campaign but it is really eight with Jadon Sancho having no future at Old Trafford.
Jadon Sancho departed Manchester United for Chelsea during the 2024 summer transfer window but that deal to take him to Stamford Bridge will become permanent come the end of this season.
For the others, Manchester United have loaned out some of their academy products in a bid to give these players more game time away from Old Trafford.
Here is how they’ve done this week.
Joe Hugill (Wigan Athletic)
Striker Joe Hugill completed a move to Wigan Athletic on loan and has had periods of good goalscoring form for the Latics.
After three goals to kickstart life at Wigan, Hugill has since struggled and that continued with his side drawing 0-0 against Nottingham Forest’s Under-21s.
Hugill was handed a rare start but struggled to make an impact against the Premier League side in the Bristol Street Moors Trophy.
Tom Wooster (Farsley Athletic)
After featuring for 90 minutes against King’s Lynn in a 2-0 victory for Farsley, the teenager would then not feature against Kidderminster Harriers, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for Tom Wooster’s side.
Since his loan move to the National League North side, Wooster has started 11 games for the club, conceding 19 goals.
Radek Vitek (BW Linz)
Promising goalkeeper Radek Vitek has had an impressive loan spell at Austrian side BW Linz. The Czech Republic goalkeeper kept a clean sheet against UEFA Champions League side Red Bull Salzburg.
Vitek has had injury problems whilst out in Austria but this has been a very successful loan period for the United academy graduate.
Rhys Bennett (Fleetwood Town)
Rhys Bennett was part of United’s FA Youth Cup winning side of 2022 and moved to EFL League Two side Fleetwood Town for more game time.
After featuring in six of his first seven games, Bennett returned to United after picking up an injury for Fleetwood but he is expected to be back soon.
Elyh Harrison (Chester)
Another promising goalkeeper in the United youth ranks is Elyh Harrison, who completed a move to National League North side Chester on a loan deal.
Harrison impressed for United during pre-season against Chester and has started 11 games for the non-league side since his summer loan move.
His most recent outing for Chester came against Needham Market with Harrison keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory.
Sonny Aljofree (Accrington Stanley)
Centre-back Sonny Aljofree signed a new deal at United before completing his loan move to EFL League Two side Accrington Stanley this summer.
After not being in the squad for the first five games of the season, Aljofree has since impressed and has started the next six games for Stanley, with the League Two side winning four and drawing one of those six games.
His defensive stats, as per Sofascore, are impressive with 2 interceptions per game, 1.2 tackles per game and 4.7 appearances per game with three clean sheets. He also has an impressive disciplinary record with just one yellow card to his name.
James Nolan (Inverness Caledonian Thistle)
18-year-old right-back James Nolan completed a loan move to Scottish side Inverness to play under ex-Everton striker Duncan Ferguson.
Nolan, who has played at both right-back and left-back was left out of Inverness’ squad for their victory over Cove Rangers but it has been a successful loan for the teenager, who already has a goal to his name.
Tom Myles (Runcorn Linnets)
The final loan player is goalkeeper Tom Myles, who secured a temporary deal to join non-league side Runcorn Linnets.
Myles was not involved as Runcorn picked up a 2-0 victory over Kidsgrove with his loan stint set to come to an end in May.
