Hannibal Mejbri signed for Manchester United from Monaco for £9 million in the summer as the latest teen wonderkid to try his luck in England.
We have seen many sign at United with big reputations and fail, so not much was expected of the 16-year-old right away.
Mejbri is doing everything to suggest he is actually the real deal.
The talented Frenchman came off the bench for United’s under-23 side in the win over Middlesbrough last night and made a positive impression.
He helped United to a 4-1 win, providing the pass which led to Tahith Chong’s netting the team’s fourth.
Mejbri’s range of passing is sublime and even in just 20 minutes, his talent is clear to see.
The way he set Chong free showed vision, technique and confidence to even try a pass which many players would not see, let alone be able to execute.
Mejbri is comfortable dropping deep to collect the ball from defence and build attacks.
His performances for the under-18s have led to him being involved with the under-23 squad. At just 16, that says a lot about how highly the United coaching staff think of him already.
They want to test him, and he is passing every challenge with flying colours so far. His first under-23 start will come before long.
United fans realise Mejbri has a long way to go and a first team opportunity is not on the agenda any time soon.
But it is impossible not to be encouraged by the way he has performed so far and it looks like United might have invested well by signing him.
