Gabriele Biancheri can’t stop scoring as Man Utd U19s thrash Zalgiris in UEFA Youth League

Wednesday night saw the Manchester United U19 side welcome Zalgiris to the Leigh Sports Village – although it was hardly a warm welcome.

Adam Lawrence coached yet another thrashing on Wednesday, guiding his Manchester United team to a whopping 6-0 win in the UEFA Youth League.

This brought the United academy side to an 11-2 aggregate scoreline over the two games, securing progression into the third round of the tournament.

Being in the Champions pathway, United are now just two legs away from qualifying for the last 32 in the proper tournament and will face AZ Alkmaar for the honour of doing so.

Before this tie, United were at their free-flowing best once again just days after Lawrence’s U18s beat Leeds 8-0.

Manchester United U19s progress in UEFA Youth League

After a 5-2 thumping in the first leg, the away tie in Manchester always looked like a tricky one for Zalgiris and this proved to be true.

It took United just seven minutes to break the deadlock on the night as Ethan Williams benefitted from an incredible Ashton Missin assist to score.

The captain Tyler Fredricson doubled the lead with a headed strike from a corner to effectively end an already dead tie.

Before half-time, United grabbed a third, with Ethan Wheatley grabbing his sixth of the season in U21 and U19 competition – with Harry Amass providing the assist.

Missin scored a fourth of the game – before the inevitable goal machine that is Gabriele Biancheri scored his 17th goal of the season in all competitions with a great finish.

The game was wrapped up at 6-0 with James Scanlon getting his 15th contribution of the campaign.

A dominant display that continues to argue Biancheri’s case for senior minutes.

Gabriele Biancheri is simply unstoppable

If there is one academy standout this season, it is quite clearly Biancheri as the Wales U19 international has been a freak of nature in front of goal.

He seems incapable of going through a game without scoring – at this rate, he may even break records for the academy at this level.

This form is unavoidable for the senior coaches and eventually logic would determine that Biancheri will be handed a shot with the first team.

Goals come naturally to Biancheri and he seems to just be getting better and better in his nearly two years at the club so far.

Now the challenge for Biancheri will be replicating these goals in the Premier League 2.
