With the Premier League season effectively a write-off and the Europa League resuming soon, expect Ruben Amorim to start giving youth players a chance.

Ruben Amorim came under a lot of criticism for failing to do that against Spurs but rectified it somewhat by giving Chido Obi a good 20 minutes or so against Everton.

Chido Obi didn’t look out of place vs Everton, potentially paving the way for more young players to get a chance and earn the trust of the Man Utd manager.

One of those players has done his prospects no harm by making his international debut after already being very highly rated by Amorim.

Godwill Kukonki makes international debut

Chido Obi received the first senior team minutes from the youth team under Amorim but when the manager arrived at Old Trafford, Godwill Kukonki was the prime candidate.

Kukonki had been called up to first-team training almost immediately after Amorim’s arrival and he also became the first youngster to make the matchday squad.

Amorim praised Kukonki too, and it was expected that the youngster had shown the rest of his teammates what to do to get a chance.

Since then, he’s been leapfrogged by Chido Obi but after his recent international debut, playing two games for the England U17s against the Netherlands, he should be right back in contention.

Kukonki played as the left-back on his debut on February 20 in a 3-2 win and then followed it up with an appearance off the bench three days later in a 4-0 win over the same opposition.

Chido Obi and more react to Kukonki’s international debut

After the mini international break for Kukonki, he took to Instagram and posted a message that said “International debut” with three pictures of him in action for the England U17s.

Brothers Jack and Tyler Fletcher reacted with a fire emoji and a “My boy” message respectively, while Shea Lacey replied with a heart and clapping emoji.

Chido Obi responded with a heart emoji made with the hands and Louie Bradbury, United’s own Chido Obi before the man from Arsenal arrived, reacted with two fire emojis.

England U17s play next in Euro U17 qualification fixtures, with Kukonki now expected to be in action regularly for them, starting with a game on March 19.
