Ten Hag willing to offload Manchester United duo Fred and Maguire

Manchester United are open to offloading club captain Harry Maguire and Fred as Erik ten Hag continues his squad overhaul.

The Guardian report that Ten Hag has made a decision on two players who have split opinions during their time at Old Trafford.

They report that United are now open to offers for Maguire when the transfer window opens in the summer, even though they would have to take a loss.

And Fred’s contract situation is coming to a head as he is into the last year of his deal, despite United having the option to extend it for another year.

Fred and Maguire could be set to leave United

And the report says that Ten Hag is preparing to release Fred, not taking up the option but also not getting a transfer fee in for the Brazilian.

This would represent a change in direction for United in terms of transfer policy.

In previous years, they have extended players’ deals in order to preserve their transfer value, but then gone on to fail to sell them.

That is how players such as Phil Jones have remained at the club, and this influence from Ten Hag would be a welcome development.

Ten Hag called Fred ‘magnificent‘ after his goal in the win over Tottenham earlier this season, but on Thursday night, he was back to being erratic and poor in possession.

The Dutchman has reportedly seemingly decided that the Brazilian is not at the standard required to be worthy of a contract renewal.

Maguire’s potential exit will grab the headlines, after a season in which he has dropped to fourth-choice central defender.

That is not a sustainable situation for the club captain and any transfer fee for Maguire could help overhaul the squad in Ten Hag’s second summer in charge.
