Youngster admits he could leave Manchester United after five years

Youngster Ondrej Mastny could be on his way out of Premier League giants Manchester United as he joins Dutch side Telstar on trial.

David de Gea is not the only Old Trafford goalkeeper who may be about to bid farewell to the Red Devils. De Gea’s contract expires this weekend, with Erik ten Hag hoping to bring in Inter Milan’s former Ajax glovesman Andre Onana as his replacement.

21-year-old Ondrej Mastny, meanwhile, could about to bring an end to his own Manchester United spell.

Mastny joined in 2018 from Czech outfit Jilhava.  He spent time on loan at Welsh outfit Portadown last term. He also conceded six goals in his only Premier League 2 appearance during 2022/23; a 6-1 hammering at Blackburn Rovers.

Unlike De Gea, he is still under contract at Man United for the foreseeable future. But with United allowing Mastny to undergo a trial at SC Telstar, it seems unlikely that Ten Hag and co will stand in his way should he wish to leave in pursuit of first-team football elsewhere.

“I just want to play regularly and enjoy football,” Mastny tells NH Nieuws.

Telstar finished ninth in the Dutch second tier last term. Manager Mike Snoei did not give anything away when asked about the possibility of signing Mastny, however, insisting that the decision rests instead upon goalkeeping coach Colin van der Meijden.

“I have no knowledge of keepers,” Snoei says. “Colin will assess that. And then we will see if we can give this young, 21-year-old keeper a platform.”

Manchester United, meanwhile, are reportedly closing in on a deal that could see Onana – who Ten Hag described as a ‘masterful’ goalkeeper during their time together at Ajax – join from Champions League runners-up Inter Milan for a fee in excess of £40 million.

Onana’s agent was in Manchester for talks last week (Gianluca di Marzio). United are reportedly willing to double his £50,000-a-week wages too.
