Manchester United want RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko leading the line for Ruben Amorim next season.

There is no surprise that Ineos have prioritised improving the attack this summer after last season’s struggles in attack.

Manchester United scored just 44 Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season, which has seen Jason Wilcox so far spearhead a stunning transformation of the forward line.

United spent £65m on Bryan Mbeumo to start in the right sided number 10 role this season. In addition, Matheus Cunha was signed for £62.5m which is 66.6 per cent of the work United want to do up front.

So once these two deals were wrapped up, it was clear United’s next priority was a new number nine, with Benjamin Sesko emerging as the clear top contender to come through the doors.

Sesko has been made United’s top target as we enter the month of August, but talks are only just beginning with Wilcox not known for speedy transfers after how long Mbeumo took.

Manchester United confident of signing Benjamin Sesko

There are some reservations around United signing Sesko which relate directly to Rasmus Hojlund, however, when comparing the two they are completely different, and this concern shouldn’t come into play.

The club seem set on targeting Sesko and despite all the risk, it looks like a deal could progress quite quickly for United, with United in Focus transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey revealing there is a confidence within the club.

United in Focus understands that there is a internal confidence within the club that they are set to win the chase for Benjamin Sesko.

Sources have insisted to us that they will not ‘get ahead of themselves’ but they are very happy with how talks have gone in recent days.

Bailey then added that United have made their intention clear to the players camp.

“During their talks Sesko confirmed that a lack of Champions League football this season was not a problem to him as the long-term project and the chance to work with Ruben Amorim were the major draws.

“I can also reveal that United made it clear to Sesko’s people that they are aware of the size of deal that would be required to land him and that they would not have entered into talks without that consideration.

“United are confident, there is no denying that but they are waiting – they also know that Newcastle have put forward a very strong case.”

Manchester United should go all in for Benjamin Sesko

United being able to afford Sesko right now is an encouraging sign that there is money left in the budget to work with for Wilcox.

However, all indications right now suggest that a striker will be what the remainder of the funds will be used on, with United desperate to add more goals.

Sesko is the kind of talent worth doing this for, and combined with Cunha and Mbeumo, the trio could easily score 45 goals between them is United are firing as expected.

Other positions like midfield appear less of a priority this summer, with Amorim adapting his midfield into a diamond shape against Bournemouth to try and compensate for the weaknesses of Casemiro.

Sales can fund other deals, but if United can complete this overhaul of the attack, it could completely transform the prospects of the 2025/26 season.
