Victor Lindelof linked with Manchester United exit, Inter Milan could take advantage of contract situation

After signing for Manchester United from Benfica in 2017, Victor Lindelof played a bit part role under Jose Mourinho.

The 30-year-old has experienced the same under Ruben Amorim, although the Swede has been tormented by injury setbacks since the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign.

Manchester United signed two centre-backs in the summer, which pushed Victor Lindelof further down the pecking order. This led to Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro becoming regulars in the United first team.

Lindelof is also behind Harry Maguire in the pecking order and the arrival of Ayden Heaven brings even more competition to the table.

With Lindelof’s contract set to expire in the summer Amorim is likely to add to his defence, it remains to be seen in the Sweden international has a future at Old Trafford.

Inter Milan tipped to target Victor Lindelof

There is no denying that Lindelof has struggled at United this season.

Lindelof has managed just five appearances in the Premier League due to a series of injuries, making it impossible for him to make an impression on United’s new head coach.

Amorim has been handed a boost with Lindelof announcing that he is ready to return to action, just in time after Lisandro Martinez’s major injury blow.

It doesn’t help that Lindelof’s contract is set to expire in the summer and there has been little to no talk about a renewal.

According to InterLive, Inter Milan could focus on signing a free agent in the summer, and they believe Lindelof’s ‘separation is sealed’ at Old Trafford.

This suggests Lindelof has no future at United and will be moved on at the end of the current season.

The report adds that the Nerazzurri are keeping taps on the United defender, who will cost much less than their other targets, although Lindelof is older than targets such as Jaka Bijol and Sam Beukema.

Ruben Amorim must settle on defence

It’s early days in Amorim’s chapter as United head coach and he is still learning about the squad in inherited from Erik ten Hag.

Amorim came from Sporting CP, where he built a team that won two league titles with an impressive defensive record.

While Amorim is still trying to figure out his best team, the Portuguese coach must settle on a defence that can keep clean sheets, even though they were unable to do that with Martinez in the team.

It remains to be seen if Lindelof will get many opportunities to prove himself with his contract set to expire.

At least Amorim has more options to select from now.
