Manchester United will be without Lisandro Martinez for the remainder of the season.
Lisandro Martinez went down awkwardly on his knee against Crystal Palace and was forced off the pitch on a stretcher.
The Argentine, who only goes down if seriously hurt, was immediately brought down the tunnel to receive treatment on his knee injury.
Ruben Amorim didn’t sound optimistic about Martinez after the game and reports from abroad circulated over an apparent ligament injury. Argentine journalist Gaston Edul reported that Martinez had torn his ligament.
United have now received an injury update on their star defender and it’s as bad – if not worse – as everyone feared.

Manchester United issue statement on Lisandro Martinez injury
The knee ligament is the worst possible injury because it means Martinez faces months out on the touchline.
In a statement issued by the club, Manchester United confirmed that Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s defeat to Crystal Palace.
The statement read via ManUtd.com: “Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.
“Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.
“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way.”
The timescale could be 9-10 months for an anterior cruciate ligament and Martinez has already had issues with his knees in the past.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered a similar injury during his time at United.
Argentina outlet TYC Sports claims Martinez will undergo surgery soon and he is expected to be out for a minimum of eight months.
Martinez injury will hurt Manchester United
Ruben Amorim has been tasked with fixing the defence since becoming United head coach.
That job has been made more difficult by Martinez’s injury blow because United will be without their best defender for the rest of the campaign.
This will likely mean more game time for Leny Yoro but Amorim will need to make changes by accommodating Noussair Mazraoui in the back three or Luke Shaw if he returns from injury.
United will be weaker without Martinez.
