Manchester United could soon be bidding farewell to Alejandro Garnacho.
If we had been told six months ago that Alejandro Garnacho would be nearing an exit in January, we would have never believed it.
Yet after Ruben Amorim’s arrival, the Argentine has dropped down the pecking order at Manchester United.
Now, United are open to selling Garnacho for £60m, with Italian giants Napoli leading the race. United are set for talks with Napoli this week.
However, Napoli is not alone with Chelsea also said to be interested in Garnacho – selling to a direct league rival would be a big risk for United.
There are some convincing reasons to sell Garnacho – albeit not to Chelsea.

Alejandro Garnacho would be huge for Manchester United’s PSR
Arguably the most convincing reason to sell Garnacho for United will be the potentially game-changing financial reasons.
By selling Garnacho for £60m – United would actually be able to spend £180m due to PSR rules and Garnacho’s status as an academy graduate meaning it would be pure profit.
This would make it one of the biggest sales in United’s history and would change the club’s financial situation.

Ruben Amorim doesn’t have a place for Garnacho
If the financial incentives are not enough for United, then the sale of Garnacho becomes even more appealing when considering that he doesn’t look to have a place in Amorim’s team.
Garnacho under Amorim

Garnacho is a traditional winger, a role which Amorim does not have in his 3-4-2-1 formation. Garnacho is also not a perfect fit for the inside winger or No.10 role.
Due to this, turning down £60m for a player who will struggle to ever be more than a rotational player under the head coach seems unlikely.
No guarantee Garnacho lives up to his potential
The final reason is less of a fact and more based on United cashing in on Garnacho while his stock is so high, something which could look genius if he fails to live up to his potential.
United have been stung by this before, such as with Adnan Januzaj who looked destined to be a world-beater for United.
£60m is a massive valuation and would be a huge fee for Garnacho – something that could leave Napoli regretting it should United be winners from the deal with the 20-year-old not improving.
