Manchester United are trying to conduct business ahead of the January transfer deadline.
The financial situation at Manchester United means Ineos need to consider Financial Fair Play and the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules before signing new players.
Ruben Amorim has yet to bring in any of his targets and may be forced to wait until the summer unless United can get a few players out of the door.
One area of the United first-team that needs strengthening is left wing-back. Amorim has had to call upon Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui to fill the avoid at times, but it’s far from ideal that Luke Shaw has spent most of the past two seasons absent due to injury.
Amorim’s system requires high-quality wing-backs, willing to get up and down the pitch, to bring the best out of everyone. United don’t have this and we’re not creating enough chances in front of goal.
United have been linked with several left wing-back options.

Manchester United fly to Italy for Patrick Dorgu talks
Patrick Dorgu has emerged as United’s top target for the left wing-back role.
The 20-year-old has played over 50 games for Leece since the start of last season and is preparing himself to join a bigger club. United In Focus have looked at what the United XI would look if Dorgu is signed this month.
Fabrizio Romano explains that Leece would prefer to keep Dorgu, but United are ‘going big’ to sign the Denmark international.
In a video on YouTube, Romano says United officials are set to fly to Italy in the coming hours to try and complete a deal to sign Dorgu before the deadline.
He said: “Man United are going big for Patrick Dorgu. In this case, there are also Napoli interested. Now, it’s time for negotiations with Leece.
“Man United will be in Italy in the next hours to meet, not just for Garnacho but also for Patrick Dorgu to understand the situation with Leece.
“They want something around €35-40 million (£29.6m-33.8m) for the possibility of selling Patrick Dorgu immediately in the January transfer window.”
Alejandro Garnacho on the agenda
United are not in Italy to just discuss the possibility of signing Dorgu because they also need to solve the ongoing situation with Alejandro Garnacho.
The United academy graduate has been linked with a shock move away from Old Trafford.
Although the decision to cash in on Garnacho would upset sections of the fanbase, there is an argument that United need the money.
Selling academy players who are good enough for the first team will never be a popular choise.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pushed United to sign exciting young players like Leny Yoro and Chido Obi. However, selling Garnacho would harm that policy since he’s a player the club would be chasing if he wasn’t on their books already.
