Manchester United will need to raise cash through sales if Ruben Amorim wants to improve his squad over January.
Despite losing four games in a row, Ruben Amorim is expecting a quiet January window at Manchester United.
Not due to the lack of interest, but instead due to a lack of money. The Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules have put a hard cap on United’s transfer budget this month after £200m was spent over the summer.
If United and Amorim do want to welcome any new signings this month, sales are required and work is already underway to try and offload several players.
Casemiro has attracted interest from several clubs, while Antony looks set to leave in January after failing to impress Amorim. However, United may need to take drastic action and there are three stars who are far more valuable than anyone else in the squad.

Man United’s three most valuable stars in January
After his bombshell interview where he revealed he is ready for a new challenge, Marcus Rashford is available for £40m in January.
Due to him being an academy product, finance expert Adam Williams told United in Focus that Rashford’s sale would solve PSR problems currently ruining the club’s transfer plans.
Under the current PSR regulations, academy players represent pure profit on club accounts which makes them more valuable.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the homegrown trio of Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo are therefore worth approximately four times as much as their team-mates.
If United really wanted to inflate the budget available to Amorim, selling any of the above trio would provide a huge boost to the club’s accounts.
Like Rashford, Garnacho was also dropped by Amorim for the Manchester derby, although the Argentine has since made his return.
Only Kobbie Mainoo is unsellable at Man United
Many supporters are expecting a January exodus and that certainly could be the case if United can find willing buyers.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have adopted a ruthless approach to their ownership at Old Trafford so far, and that will likely be the case when it comes to transfers.
In December, reports claimed there are only six unsellable players at United that are safe from being sold at the right price.
Out of the three homegrown players mentioned, only Mainoo is considered unsellable by Ineos, who believe he can be a key player in their long-term project.
It means that Rashford and Garnacho could be sold in January to raise funds. Neither player seems well-suited to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
