Manchester United have begun to shred the wage bill by offloading high-earners. That is set to continue in 2026.
Even before Ineos completed their minority buyout at Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe expressed criticism over one of the club’s transfer deals.
It was reported that Ratcliffe was unimpressed with the £60 million fee and £350,000 per week deal handed to Casemiro.
Now 33, Casemiro is into the final year of his contract and expected to leave Manchester United on a free transfer when his deal expires next June.

Casemiro receives interest from Brazil
With Casemiro set to become a free agent in 2026, clubs in his native Brazil are dreaming of a homecoming for the midfielder.
BolaVIP reports that via journalist Jorge Nicola, there is interest already from Flamengo and Palmeiras over a move next summer.
Flamengo believe Casemiro’s experience fits the profile of what they are looking for, and that the Manchester United star will ‘raise their competitive level’.
They have recently made big moves for veterans like David Luiz and Jorginho, and Casemiro would be greeted with even more enthusiasm.
It is also claimed that Sao Paulo are in the mix, due to Casemiro’s former connections to the club where he began his career.
“Casemiro has never hidden his gratitude to São Paulo, which could influence a future decision,” Nicola adds.
While there is also expected to be interest from the Saudi Pro League, Casemiro has not jumped at the opportunity to move there in the past, and has already earned substantially during his career.
Casemiro has plenty more to give first
After being dropped by Ruben Amorim at the start of 2025, Casemiro regained his place in the Manchester United team.
Casemiro has started all three of Manchester United’s Premier League games this season, regaining the faith of his head coach.
And with United playing only once per week due to a lack of European football, Casemiro has a better chance to produce his best form.
He will also have one eye on the 2026 World Cup, where he has been recalled by Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti and re-installed as a regular starter.
And if his summer does end with a dream World Cup win, the temptation to return to play club football in Brazil could be even greater.
