Ten Hag reacts as Manchester United make decision over Harry Kane

Manchester United are reported to have pulled out of a transfer move for Harry Kane.

According to The Guardian, Manchester United have withdrawn from the battle to sign Harry Kane this summer.

United had made early enquiries over Kane, keen to find a solution for the team’s striker problem.

But with Tottenham resistant to selling, United have refused to get locked into a drawn out battle, which has no guarantee of success.

Ten Hag view on Harry Kane

Harry Kane was Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag’s first choice this summer.

And as former boss Louis van Gaal would attest, United often do a poor job of delivering first choice transfer targets.

Ten Hag though, is reported to be more understanding than angry, about the situation.

The Guardian report Ten Hag is “disappointed that it has fallen through, but understands the club cannot go past a certain point when it comes to the transfer fee and the overall package for a 29-year-old.”

Figures of £100 million had been quoted, via The Times, however, Spurs were not willing to discuss a transfer.

This decision has been taken early enough, that there is plenty of time to pivot. United will have a list of back up options already.

A move for Kane would have taken up most of the club’s transfer budget, and the striker is available on a free in 2024.

United can now move on. Getting a striker, or two, is a top priority. Kane would have been brilliant, but it has been clear that this deal was never going to get off the ground.
