A delighted Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of Felix Nmecha as one of Manchester United’s midfield targets seals his reported £25 million move to the Bundesliga runners-up.
The good news is that, with Mason Mount finally through the door at Old Trafford – only an official announcement missing at this stage – the sight of Wolfsburg’s Felix Nmecha donning yellow-and-black is not quite as painful as it might have been.
According to Sport1, Manchester United held talks with Nmecha’s father and agent at the start of the summer.
The one-time Germany international – who started his career at Manchester City like Jadon Sancho, Adrien Rabiot and Jeremie Frimpong – was likely viewed by the Red Devils as a back-up option if Chelsea refused to reduce their initially-eye-watering demands regarding Mount.
Nmecha, one of last season’s breakthrough Bundesliga stars, shares many of the attributes that made Mount such a priority target for Erik ten Hag; the running power, the prodigious work-rate and the eye for goal from the edge of the penalty area.

Borussia Dortmund sign Felix Nmecha
Nmecha will now be tasked with helping to fill a Jude Bellingham-shaped hole in the BVB midfield instead. Dortmund confirmed on Monday that the 22-year-old has signed a deal at the Signal Iduna Park until 2028.
“Borussia Dortmund is a wonderful club that I have followed since my childhood,” says Nmecha, who was only just leaving primary school when Jurgen Klopp led Die Schwarzgelben to the double a decade ago.
“I’m delighted that I am a part of it now. And that I can help the team achieve its objectives in the Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal and the Champions League. I hope the fans will give me the chance to get to know me.”
Dortmund are reportedly paying £25 million for Nmecha (RN). He averaged a goal or an assist every three games for Wolfsburg in 2022/23.
“Felix Nmecha is a fast, technically adept and physically strong player,” adds sporting director Sebastien Kehl. “(He) will enhance our midfield both offensively and defensively with his profile.
“He had a sterling education at Manchester City and played his way into the limelight at Wolfsburg last season. We’re delighted to have won another Germany international over.
“(We) are convinced that Felix’s development is a long way from over.”
