Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is set to undergo his medical at Napoli today according to reports.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been busy in the summer transfer window and it appears the Red Devils are closing in on their preferred midfield target.

Fabrizio Romano has reported the deal to take Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United is done with the Uruguayan set to move to Old Trafford for £42 million with add-ons taking the deal to £50 million.

This move for Ugarte has been a long time in the making but the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder moving to Old Trafford has freed up Scott McTominay to move to Napoli.

Scott McTominay’s move to Napoli all the details

David Ornstein has posted on X that McTominay is expected to fly to Italy today to finalise a deal for the Scottish midfielder to complete his move to Antonio Conte’s Napoli.

Whilst Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports claims United are set to receive £25 million for McTominay with the Red Devils also having a sell-on clause in the deal.

That sell-on clause looks to be around 10 per cent which means that were Napoli to sell McTominay in the future for £40 million, for example, the Red Devils would receive £4 million from that sale.

A further positive from this sale for the Red Devils is that because McTominay came through United’s academy, the sale of the Scotsman will go down as pure profit which will be great for any potential issues the Red Devils have with PSR.

The time is right for Scott McTominay to depart Old Trafford

Since breaking through at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho in 2017, it appears that McTominay has always been a divisive figure for fans of the Red Devils.

There has never been a question about the midfielder’s desire and work rate with every manager seemingly taking a shine to the Scotsman’s desire.

However, his quality has been one of the questions with the midfielder, at times, struggling to get involved in games and looking like a bystander at times.

Last season, McTominay scored 10 goals in all competitions and without the goalscoring exploits of the academy graduate, United would have not won the FA Cup.

He may have been divisive but the midfielder should be remembered for his goalscoring exploits and he could excel under Antonio Conte at Napoli.
