Fabrizio Romano reports that Fred’s move from Manchester United to Turkey is now imminent after the Red Devils ‘accepted’ Fenerbahce’s latest offer.

With Erik ten Hag still hoping to make at least one new addition before the window closes, the Red Devils were always likely to step up their attempts to raise some valuable transfer funds this week. But, even still, few expected quite so much action within the space of just 24 mad Manchester United hours.

After West Ham agreed a £30 million deal for Harry Maguire on Wednesday, reserve-team goalkeeper Matej Kovar joined Bayer Leverkusen a day later for a fee which could rise to £8 million.

Fred, meanwhile, is now all-but certain to be a Fenerbahce player come September.

Fred leaves Manchester United for Turkey

After seeing two initial bids rejected, Fenerbahce returned with a third. Around £12 million. And that, it seems, was enough for Manchester United to finally green-light a sale which has been on the cards ever since Sofyan Amrabat emerged as a priority target earlier in the window.

“Fred to Fenerbahce, here we go!,” Romano wrote just after 6pm today. “Deal in place with Manchester United.

“The proposal revealed earlier has been accepted and a verbal agreement reached. Fred has agreed terms with Fenerbahce and will travel for medical tests soon.

“Exclusive story, confirmed.”

Fred gave his best for United

How history looks back on Fred’s Manchester United career, only time will tell. Few players have the ability to make us swoon and swear within the same 10 second burst. Few players are quite so exasperating, so remarkably inconsistent, yet so loveable all at once.

Fred also departs having enjoyed probably his finest Man United campaign in 2022/23.

It was certainly his most productive from a statistical standpoint; a tally of six goals and six assists from a more advanced role raising questions about how differently things might have turned out for the Brazilian had United signed a genuine, top-level defensive midfielder like Casemiro a few windows earlier.
