Manchester United will likely be in the market this summer for a new experienced striker to share the workload with Benjamin Sesko.
With Joshua Zirkzee looking set to depart Manchester United, this summer will see a new forward brought in to help Benjamin Sesko across four competitions next season.
United are keen to sign an experienced striker for this role, one who Sesko can learn the trade from, but is also capable of scoring goals when starting games.
Now, Rio Ferdinand has claimed there is one option that should be seriously considered.

WHO would be your ideal ‘experienced striker’ for Man United to sign this summer?
Who would benefit Sesko the most…
Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to sign Robert Lewandowski
United won’t have to break the bank this summer to sign a top-class, experienced number nine, and in the case of Robert Lewandowski, it could even be free.
Lewandowski has announced his impending departure from Barcelona this summer, with his contract set to expire. One of the greatest strikers of the 21st century, Lewandowski, would be perfect for United’s demands.
Now, Rio Ferdinand has tweeted his support for this potential move.
Reacting to Lewandowski’s departure, Ferdinand said, “What a guy, what a player!!
“Experienced option next season in UCL & help with development of Sesko?”, he asked.
Who should play up front vs Nottingham Forest with Benjamin Sesko ruled out?
Robert Lewandowski’s stunning career goal record
If United really want to help Sesko with an experienced striker to rotate him with, Lewandowski is probably the best option available.
This is because Lewandowski is one of the finest goal scorers in European history, and in particular, the Champions League.
- 🇩🇪Bayern Munich – 344 goals
- 🇪🇸Barcelona – 119 goals
- 🇩🇪Borussia Dortmund – 103 goals
- 🇵🇱Lech Poznan – 41 goals
- 🇵🇱Znicz Pruszkow – 21 goals
628 total club career goals for Lewandowski, with 109 coming in his 144 Champions League appearances.
Ahead of a return to the Champions League next season, United needs a player like this. Obviously, at 37, he isn’t the same player, but 18 goals in the 2025/26 campaign prove he still has it.
Lewandowski also brings experience and leadership to Old Trafford, with Casemiro leaving, the Polish record goalscorer would bring a much-needed winning mentality.
