The 2025/26 campaign isn’t over, but it would appear that Robert Lewandowski’s time at Barcelona is on the verge of coming to an end.
Barcelona and Robert Lewandowski had been in talks over a new contract, but they’ve now stalled as both parties have failed to reach an agreement.
The Poland international will be 38 by the time the new season begins, but he could emerge as a free agent option for Manchester United so long as he’s not chasing money with his new deal.
United would benefit from having another striker in the squad, especially if Joshua Zirkzee leaves. Lewandowski is a player that Benjamin Sesko could easily benefit from.

WHO would be your ideal ‘experienced striker’ for Man United to sign this summer?
Who would benefit Sesko the most…
Robert Lewandowski would help Benjamin Sesko at Man Utd if the price was right
Lewandowski’s negotiations with Barcelona over a new deal have seemingly broken down.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Lewandowski is certain to leave Camp Nou this summer, as both parties could still agree before the striker’s contract expires.
The reasons for that will soon be known because Lewandowski will have offers to join clubs in Europe and elsewhere. It remains to be seen if he’ll opt to join a top club in another European league he has yet to play in, or if he’ll chase the money and experience football in a different continent, such as the Middle East.
Lewandowski still knows where the goal is after finding the back of the net 18 times in 43 games across all competitions for Barcelona this season.
It goes without saying that adding Lewandowski to United’s attack would bring more experience to the front line. If given the right service, he will score goals, and Sesko could learn plenty from training with the Polish legend.
Signing Lewandowski may go against Ineos’ promise and attraction to young talent, but United also need experienced players for their youngsters to learn from.
Lewandowski has been a model professional throughout his career – at Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and now Barcelona. United could do worse than signing the veteran goalscorer for at least a year.
It may be another Edinson Cavani-type signing, but United shouldn’t be reliant on Lewandowski.
If Lewandowski could be gotten on a reasonable salary as a free agent, he would prove to be a greater help than a hindrance to Sesko’s development.
What are your thoughts on Ederson being linked to Man Utd? Is he what we need?
Robert Lewandowski exit could free up money for Marcus Rashford deal
Barcelona have cited financial issues as the reason for not being able to commit to a permanent deal for Marcus Rashford.
Rashford has high wage demands and it’s understood that Barcelona would struggle to cover those on top of a £25m deal.
However, if Lewandowski is leaving the club, this should put Barcelona in a stronger position if they really want to sign Rashford.
Lewandowski’s exit could have a knock-on effect that could impact United one way or another.
