Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim could miss out on a Premier League star after Real Madrid sparked their interest in the player, according to stunning reports.
Ruben Amorim will be expected to begin the next step of his Manchester United first-team squad overhaul at the end of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
The 40-year-old United manager inherited Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils squad after his arrival at Old Trafford from Sporting CP last November.
Erik ten Hag was sacked last October after United’s disastrous start to the Premier League season and Amorim already offloaded players in the January window.
Antony was one high-profile player shipped out to La Liga club Real Betis on loan, while another came with Marcus Rashford’s loan deal to Aston Villa.
Amorim saw very little reinforcement arrive before the window shut in February, with former Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu being the major signing for United.
The former Sporting CP boss will be desperate to continue the clear-out at Old Trafford and bring the necessary players needed for his tactical system.

Madrid’s interest in Man Utd linked player
According to The Daily Mail, Real Madrid have deployed staff to ‘monitor’ the progress of Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with Adam Wharton, who is under contract with Premier League side Crystal Palace until 2029.
Wharton, who made his senior England debut in 2024, has been out of action in recent months and only returned for Palace last month after a period on the sideline.
The 21-year-old midfielder underwent an operation on his groin last November, but he is now tipped to be called up for Thomas Tuchel’s upcoming England squad.
The Daily Mail reports that Madrid chief scout Juni Calafat is a ‘confirmed admirer’ of Wharton and the club are keeping close tabs on him amid United and Liverpool’s interest.
However, Palace are expected to play hardball over negotiations for the England international and could demand a transfer value of ‘around £70m’ for Wharton.
Amorim’s need for Man Utd midfielder
United midfielder Christian Eriksen is expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer, with the former Ajax and Tottenham ace out of contract at the end of the season.
Casemiro has been deemed surplus to requirements for Amorim at United, but the ex-Real Madrid star is under contract until 2026 and could still leave the Red Devils.
Amorim’s preferred picks for his midfield paring have been Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, but the United manager has been without the latter due to injury.
The Portuguese coach has been forced to rotate his United midfield in recent weeks amid the absence of first-team players like Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer.
