One exit door closes for £35m Manchester United man as interested club sign alternative instead

The options available to Manchester United’s Premier League misfit Donny van de Beek have just been reduced with Serie A outfit Genoa agreeing a deal to bring in one of their alternative central midfield targets.

Now, Berkan Kutlu may not possess the profile of a Donny van de Beek or a Tanguy Ndombele. But with time ticking by and with Genoa desperate to bring in a new midfielder before Friday’s deadline, the prospect of bringing in Kutlu quickly and relatively easily saw him emerged as a priority for the Ligurian outfit.

Negotiations certainly progressed a lot smoother than they may have for Ndombele or Manchester United’s forgotten man, Van de Beek. Kutlu was pictured arriving for a medical in Italy today; Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Turkey international is joining on £4.2 million loan-to-buy deal.

As for Van de Beek, the potential landing spots available to him are not exactly plentiful with just 24 hours of the window remaining.

Donny Van de Beek still at Manchester United

According to Le Parisien, the £35 million signing from Ajax is not exactly enamoured about the propsect of joining a mid-table FC Lorient in France. Galatasaray remain in contention, at least. And Manchester United may be hoping that Galatasaray’s reputation for jump-starting stalling careers will appeal to a player who has started only 11 Premier League games in three years at Old Trafford.

Lucas Torreira, Nicolo Zaniolo, Mauro Icardi and former Man United team-mate Juan Mata were all part of the Gala side which secured the Turkish Super Lig title in 2022/23.

Turkey move may be on the cards

“In the end, it is about him playing football week-in, week-out,” United and Dutch legend Jaap Stam tells Voetbal Nieuws of Van de Beek. “Is he going to do that under Ten Hag at the moment? I don’t think so. That didn’t happen when he was fit!

That’s a shame, because Donny is a good football player. However, the coach makes choices, and you have to dare to choose for yourself as a player.

“(Donny should think) ‘maybe I should make the move somewhere else so that I can play’.”

Van de Beek’s departure appears integral to Ten Hag’s hopes of bringing in Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina before the close of play tomorrow.
