Sandro Tonali is on Manchester United’s midfield shortlist this summer, as he was expected to be leaving Newcastle United.
Over the past few weeks, Sandro Tonali links have quietened around Manchester United, despite previously it was indicated he was a top option.
It has been reported recently that Tonali wants out of Newcastle, with Arsenal and United named as potential options for the Italian.
Tonali would cost a lot for United to sign, likely in the £80m region. But a transfer might not actually be as likely as rumoured.

How would YOU spend Man United’s rumoured £250m transfer budget?💰
Would you go big on the midfield, or should United spread out the budget?
Sandro Tonali now looking closer to staying at Newcastle United
Tonali, as a target, divided fans, with his age and profile not painting him as a revolutionary signing.
But it seems unlikely that a deal actually goes through.
Now, Sky Sports‘ Newcastle reporter, Keith Downie, has shared an update on what he has heard about Tonali, and it indicates United won’t be signing him.
“We had a message from one of our colleagues over at Sky Italy this morning to say that there’s actually been, as far as he understood, some direct contact between both Manchester United and Newcastle for the potential departure or potential transfer of Tonali to Old Trafford.
“And the good news for you guys is that at this current moment, I’m told that is not the case. And there’s been no talks, no contact from Manchester United towards Newcastle for Tonali.
“And I have to say, just the noises I’m hearing, it feels a bit it feels like there’s more chance of him staying now than probably there was a few weeks ago.”
Should Man United try sign Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall this summer?
How much is Lewis Hall worth (under contract until 2029)? 🤔
Manchester United should sign Lewis Hall from Newcastle instead
Tonali staying at Newcastle doesn’t feel completely likely, considering his agent’s comments on wanting a transfer this summer. However, it would be good for United.
Newcastle have financial trouble this summer and will have to sell, but with Anthony Gordon likely heading to Bayern Munich, they are unlikely to sell much more.
So if Tonali stays, United’s interest in Lewis Hall might accelerate.
Hall is United’s top left-back option this summer, and he would be a huge coup for the club. If that means not signing Tonali, then so be it.
