Manchester United know first-hand how impressive Matheus Cunha has been for Wolves this season.

The 25-year-old forward was the star of the show as Manchester United lost 2-0 to Wolves in December, with Matheus Cunha scoring directly from a corner.

The Red Devils could reinforce their attacking options over January with Joshua Zirkzee failing to settle and Rasmus Hojlund struggling for form.

United admire Cunha and want to sign him in 2025 if finances allow. Unfortunately, the Profit and Sustainability Rules have made it difficult for any deals to be completed in January.

They are not alone in their interest, however, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United also linked to Cunha this month.

Matheus Cunha ‘really close’ to signing new Wolves deal

Wolves currently find themselves just above the relegation zone in the Premier League table – partly thanks to their victory over United last month.

They will be desperate to keep hold of Cunha at least until the summer with the Brazilian scoring 10 goals and assisting four this season.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Cunha is “really close” to signing a new deal at Wolves which will land a blow to United’s chances of signing him this month.

Jacobs claims it is “just a matter of time” before Cunha agrees a long-term contract at Wolves, which will allow the top-flight club to dictate an even bigger asking price.

Matheus Cunha dominated Man United this season

The Christmas spirit around United quickly fell flat after the Boxing Day defeat to Wolves, with Cunha scoring the opener at Molineux.

Ultimately, United “couldn’t really handle” Cunha on the day. He did more than enough to convince fans that he would be a brilliant signing.

Amid United’s interest, Cunha is valued at £60m by Wolves but if he agrees to a new deal then that asking price could soar even higher.

United have failed to score in any of their last three Premier League matches and extra firepower is desperately needed in 2025.

However, Cunha’s new Wolves agreement means Ineos and Co. may have to look elsewhere.
