Manchester United’s new £23m target has already drawn Haaland comparisons

Manchester United are reportedly targeting the ‘Prince of Norway’ with Antonio Nusa potentially on his way to join Erling Haaland in the Premier League.

Just last week, Jesper Mathisen – a veteran of Norwegian football – expressed his confidence that 18-year-old Antonio Nusa had everything to be a ‘player for Manchester United’, tipping the Red Devils to make a move with Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Antony all facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford for various and very unpleasant reasons.

United, if they were to issue a response to Mathisen, would probably say something along the lines of ‘we’re well ahead of you, Jesper’.

Because, according to reporter Pieter-Jan Calcoen, the Erik ten Hag’s side already have their sights firmly fixed on Nusa. United, alongside Arsenal, PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund, have sent a scout to Belgium. Presumably with Club Brugge’s Europa League opener against Besiktas in mind.

Manchester United eye Club Brugge starlet Antonio Nusa

Nusa only turned 18 in April but is already building up quite the catalogue of dazzling displays for club and country. He scored on his Norway debut this month. And Brugge coach Ronny Deila believes that – if Haaland is the King of the Scandinavian nation – then Nusa is the young prince, waiting to inherit the throne.

“He has experienced incredible things with the national team. He is currently Prince of Norway,” former Celtic boss Deila tells Het Nieuwsblad. “After Haaland, of course.”

Nusa may be a young man but there is a wide head on those shoulders. The teenager turned down a £23 million move to Chelsea over the summer, and it may take some convincing to lure him away from Club Brugge, regular first-team football and all.

Nusa snubs Chelsea

“The end of the transfer window (with all the rumours) overwhelmed him,” Deila adds. “A lot has happened in the last few weeks, which makes me even more impressed (with his performances).

“We protect him well. It is important to think about success with the club first. Much bigger things (await Nusa in the future).”

Nusa can play anywhere across the frontline. That versatility could come in handy if United opt to cash in on Jadon Sancho during the January window.
