Manchester United are set to begin the Ruben Amorim era and may well have a perfect signing lined up for him in 2025.
Here we are then, the final day of the Ruud van Nistelrooy era at Manchester United.
Van Nistelrooy will manage his final game as interim boss against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon before Ruben Amorim steps in.
United have appointed Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s successor but have allowed him to stay in Lisbon until the international break.
Sporting face Braga in Amorim’s final game on Sunday evening and the 39-year-old will then be heading for Old Trafford.
Amorim will be watching how United fare against the Foxes and will be looking to make a decision on whether or not to keep Van Nistelrooy on the coaching staff.

Manchester United eye ‘generational talent’ for Ruben Amorim
Amorim will be able to assess his squad ahead of the January transfer window, though we wouldn’t expect Ineos to throw money around.
United fans have fallen in love with Viktor Gyokeres but a move for the Sporting striker is unlikely in January.
United may instead focus on another Scandinavian ace though with Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan thought to be a prime target.
Reports in August suggested that United want to sign Nypan amid competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Give Me Sport now claim that United believe Nypan’s profile would fit right into Amorim’s plans for the club moving forward.
United really don’t want to lose out on Nypan and a decision on whether to make a move in January is expected soon.
Nypan has been hailed as a ‘generational talent’ by one Norwegian scout and is already impressing for Rosenborg.
Sverre Nypan shining for Rosenborg
Attacking midfielder Nypan has often been compared to compatriot Martin Odegaard – and for good reason.
Nypan has played 25 times for Rosenborg in the 2024 Eliteserien campaign, racking up seven goals and six assists in the process.
No wonder that Norwegian scout rates Nypan so highly.
The 17-year-old would be one for the future at United but Ineos have shown a willingness to add top talents.
Chido Obi-Martin continues to score goals in United’s youth ranks after joining from Arsenal over the summer.
Add in the likes of Samuel Lusale, James Overy and Sekou Kone and United are adding real talent for the coming years – and Nypan would fit into that plan perfectly.
