The Ivan Perisic rumours get one final go before disappearing for good…

Like the Wesley Sneijder rumours in 2010, some speculation is such that it defines a summer transfer window.

2017 belonged to Ivan Perisic, who Jose Mourinho wanted to sign from Inter Milan. And this was where his entire project unravelled.

The Evening Standard reported Inter Milan wanted £48 million, and Ed Woodward refused to go over £45 million. And United ended up without a winger to supply Romelu Lukaku.

Perisic rumours return

Manchester United have been plunged into an immediate pursuit of a left-back, after an injury to Luke Shaw. Tyrell Malacia is also sidelined.

United are exploring options, with Sergio Reguilon, Marc Cucurella and Marcos Alonso among the short-term options, per The Mail.

Now a familiar name has been thrown into the mix, with Football Transfers claiming United have made a loan enquiry to Tottenham for Perisic, where the Croatian currently plays, having converted from winger to a more defensive role.

Tottenham are not claimed to be willing to sanction a loan, and that should be the end of that.

United need cover

A reported move for 34-year-old Perisic sums up the desperation United are in, late in the transfer window to try and find left-back cover.

Diogo Dalot filled in at the weekend, but this leaves United with only two fit full-backs for both positions for the next two to three months.

20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez was on the bench at the weekend and United fans want to see him get a chance, however, it seems Erik ten Hag has reservations, and is at least keen to explore options.

Many players will be linked over the coming days, and this is one last hurrah for the Perisic to United rumours, reminding us of one that got away.

If a move somehow did materialise, we wonder what Jose would make of it…
