Transfer news and gossip relating to Manchester United for the January transfer window…

Mohamed Kudus interest escalated

What’s the story? Manchester United are reported to have escalated interest in Ajax forward Mohamed Kudus, reports 90 Min.

Ajax signed Kudus in 2020, beating competition from United at the time, EkstraBladet reported.

The Telegraph reported in late December that United had added Kudus’ name to the club’s shortlist, following his strong start to the season for Ajax, and his World Cup displays for Ghana.

The latest report claims United are now assessing the feasibility of doing a deal for Kudus this month.

Verdict: It would be a surprise if United were successful in signing Kudus this January, amid reports of a lack of funds, via BBC Sport.

Recent dealings with Ajax have also proved expensive, and the Dutch side could be expected to resist an approach from United.

The Red Devils would have to sell in order to buy, with Kudus expected to cost upwards of £30 million. A loan with obligation to buy in the summer would be too much to ask.

Vincent Aboubakar on United’s list

What’s the story? A report from The Mail claims Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar is a potential option for Manchester United.

Aboubakar plays for Cristiano Ronaldo‘s new side Al Nassr, and could become available due to the legendary striker’s arrival.

Verdict: Aboubakar showed a touch of quality at the World Cup with Cameroon, but this feels like a desperation short-term option.

The forward is still only 30 and has experience in Europe with Porto. Landing him on a six-month loan would be better than nobody – but we feel there are likely to be better options out there.
