Manchester United transfer news: Aboubakar could fast-track Weghorst move

Manchester United were linked over the weekend with a move for Netherlands international striker Wout Weghorst.

Fabrizio Romano reported Weghorst is keen to make the deal happen, even though he is currently on loan at Besiktas from Burnley.

BBC Sport report Burnley do not have a recall clause, meaning Besiktas must agree to let him join Manchester United.

Sporting director Ceyhun Kazanci told NTV Spor that an agreement could be possible, but Besiktas would have to be compensated.

Now, another development could fast-track Weghorst’s potential move to Old Trafford.

Aboubakar could speed up Weghorst move

The Athletic report Besiktas could swoop to sign Vincent Aboubakar as Weghorst’s replacement, with the Turkish club open to bringing the forward back to the club.

Aboubakar plays for Al Nassr, where he has become surplus to requirements thanks to the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Cameroon striker was last week reported by The Mail to be on a list of striker options being considered by Manchester United.

It looks like Weghorst is United’s priority, with Aboubakar possibly taking his place – after Ronaldo supplanted him.

The Athletic state Aboubakar has an ‘uncertain future’ at Al Nassr, and it is possible his deal is cancelled in a similar way to Ronaldo’s at Old Trafford.

This is a striker merry-go-round set into place by Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United in November, now finally accelerated with the opening of the transfer window.

It sounds like this could be win-win for everybody, and that it could all get worked out over the coming days.

United would love to have a new striker on board before the Manchester derby at Old Trafford next Saturday.
