Manchester United are tracking Ajax winger Amourricho Van Axel Dongen, who will be a free agent this summer.

Fabrizio Romano reports Manchester United are ‘informed’ over Van Axel Dongen’s situation.

Romano says Ajax have offered a deal to the winger until 2027, but no agreement has been reached.

The 18-year-old winger is thought to be frustrated at a lack of game time at Ajax, with no first team appearances so far this season.

Ten Hag handed Van Axel Dongen his debut

Erik ten Hag handed Van Axel Dongen his debut, one of 21 Ajax players who he promoted to the first team.

This was when the winger was just 17 last year, but he has not had the opportunities this season, where he has been playing for Ajax’s under-21s.

United’s interest may end up being a stop on route to the winger extending his deal, but it makes sense that Ten Hag would show interest in acquiring the young talent on a free transfer and taking a gamble.

Van Axel Dongen is a left winger who has represented Netherlands at under-18s level.

Romano describes the situation as ‘one to watch’ for United with Ten Hag a ‘big fan’ of the prospect. He adds that teams in Germany are also interested.

The Sun reported earlier this year that Manchester United boss Ten Hag has instructed United to monitor Dutch talents in the Eredivisie, believing they represent good value for money, like Tyrell Malacia last summer.

United raided Ajax to sign Lisandro Martinez and Antony, and while those deals were drawn out sagas, this one is less complicated due to the winger’s contract.

If he reaches the end of June as a free agent, then Van Axel Dongen could be an astute signing, one who United could add into the under-21s initially before bringing into the first team.
