Manchester United continue to be linked with potential left wing back additions after the appointment of new boss Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United need to back Ruben Amorim with major signings in 2025.

Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest has handed new boss Amorim back-to-back defeats.

United were poor throughout and Rio Ferdinand’s ‘shambles’ verdict is pretty much on the money.

It’s clear that Amorim needs reinforcements in order to take United forward and a new left wing back is a priority.

Manchester United scout Danish star

Amorim has brought his 3-4-3 system to Old Trafford and United are still learning this new system.

Wing backs are a major subject of conversation though with Diogo Dalot yet to really impress under Amorim.

Dalot has been operating at left wing back and doesn’t exactly look natural in that role.

Reports suggest that United are interested in signing Lanus talent Julio Soler with a left wing back seemingly a prime target.

The Mirror now claim that United have scouted Lecce star Patrick Dorgu in action against Juventus.

United also watched Juventus talent Kenan Yildiz but Dorgu may now become a top target with valuation fo £35million on his head.

Tuttomercatoweb suggested that Dorgu was ‘fairly anonymous’ in the first half of that game but really stepped it up after the break.

Dorgu looks destined for a big move in 2025 and United may well launch a move – possibly in the summer rather than in January.

Who is United target Patrick Dorgu?

Dorgu is of Nigerian descent and hails from Denmark, starting his career with Husum Boldklub and then Nordsjælland.

Lecce pounced to sign Dorgu in 2022 and have now turned him into a first-team star in Serie A.

Dorgu has already played 50 first-team games for Lecce, notching five goals and one assist.

Primarily a left-sided player, Dorgu’s athletic and attacking qualities have earned comparisons to Gareth Bale.

As quoted by Calciomercato, former Lecce boss Luca Gotti suggested that Dorgu could be on the same path as Bale.

“He could have been a full-back, but he had goals on him. This can happen with Dorgu, you have to read his path,” said Gotti.

Dorgu won an award just last week as he was named Danish Talent of the Year for 2024, following in the footsteps of previous winner and now-United ace Rasmus Hojlund.

The 20-year-old is a real talent for the future and could lock down that left wing back role under Amorim for years to come if United can convince Lecce to sell.
