Manchester United are looking at a deal to bring in Wout Weghorst during the January transfer window – but work is ongoing searching for a long-term option too.
Hopefully fuelled with extra funds from a takeover, a striker is expected to become a priority in the summer.
ESPN report there are currently three forwards on Manchester United’s summer shortlist, including one in the Premier League.
These are Harry Kane, Benjamin Sesko, and Victor Osimhen.

United’s three summer striker options
This list could potentially grow, and we would expect it to do so before the summer. But each of these three would be upgrades on United’s current situation.
Harry Kane
- Club: Tottenham Hotspur
- Age: 29
- Current season: 17 goals in 26 games
- Pro: Kane knows the Premier League and could be a perfect match. His move could resemble Robin van Persie’s 2012 switch, becoming the missing piece for United, as he looks to finally end his own career trophy drought. It might just work.
- Con: Tottenham would demand a fee likely above his market value, and as the oldest of the three, Kane could flame out as quickly as Van Persie did, who lasted just three seasons at United.
Benjamin Sesko
- Club: Red Bull Salzburg, to join RB Leipzig at end of season.
- Age: 19
- Current season: 7 goals in 25 games
- Pro: Sesko has the traits to become a top striker, and has been compared to Erling Haaland. The Slovenia international could have the highest long-term upside of all three.
- Con: United would have to pay a high price to convince RB Leipzig to sell him without playing a Bundesliga game. Sesko’s record is underwhelming this season, and the move to Manchester United could come too early for him.
Victor Osimhen
- Club: Napoli
- Age: 24
- Current season: 11 goals in 16 games
- Pro: Osimhen could be the sweet spot between inexperienced Sesko and ageing Kane. He is an explosive striker who is currently the Serie A top scorer, and United could sign him while his best years are still ahead of him.
- Con: With Napoli enjoying a strong season, their past track record with star players suggests they would demand between £80-100 million for Osimhen. He also has a patchy injury record, which could deter United from paying such a fee.
