Felix Nmecha, 25, is currently under contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2030.

United consider Felix Nmecha

Konur describes the move as a ‘significant investment’ from United and adds that the club believe the midfielder will be an important addition.

He says: “United are targeting a profile that can add both physical presence and technical quality in midfield, and Nmecha is viewed as a player who could sit at the heart of that rebuild.”

Nmecha is a standout name on Manchester United’s list as the club look to strengthen in midfield, but there is also rival interest from Chelsea.

Xabi Alonso’s side also have Nmecha under consideration. Separately, United have been linked with signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

United’s interest in Nmecha is currently most advanced, but it remains to be seen if the offer will match Dortmund’s asking price.

Nmecha is familiar to Jason Wilcox

Manchester United director Jason Wilcox is well aware of Felix Nmecha, because the midfielder was with Manchester City’s academy, where he previously worked.

Nmecha made a total of three competitive appearances for City before leaving to sign with Wolfsburg.

The midfielder would qualify as an ‘association-trained’ player per UEFA rules, helping United’s attempts to meet the squad requirements for Champions League registration.
