Manchester United are now weighing up a late move to bring Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg to Old Trafford.

Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is on his way in to replace Dean Henderson at United and the attention should turn back to signing a new midfielder.

Fiorentina ace Sofyan Amrabat has been the top target for a while now but United still haven’t secured a deal.

Other names such as Ryan Gravenberch and Amadou Onana continue to be linked but there has been little progress there.

The expectation is that United will soon ramp up the move for Amrabat but another option is now on Erik ten Hag’s mind…

Manchester United weighing up Pierre-Emile Højbjerg move

The Telegraph now report that United are pondering a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg before Friday’s transfer deadline.

It’s stated that United have been offered the chance to sign Højbjerg in the coming days and are being invited to open talks over a deal.

The report claims that Tottenham accepted a £30million offer from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer but the move collapsed.

United may be looking to grind that price down as we move closer to the transfer deadline.

Højbjerg has yet to start a Premier League game for Tottenham this season and doesn’t appear to be a key player under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

That opens the door for United to weigh up a deal for Højbjerg and potentially scrap a move for Amrabat after all.

Erik ten Hag is a big fan of Højbjerg

Højbjerg may not sound all that appealing to United fans but Ten Hag is a real admirer of the Denmark international.

Ten Hag and Højbjerg worked together during the 2013-14 season with Bayern Munich’s second team.

This was in Germany’s fourth tier as Højbjerg scored four times in 14 games under Ten Hag.

The Dutchman even wanted to sign Højbjerg back in the summer of 2020, during his time as Ajax boss.

Ten Hag was quoted as saying that he ‘really wanted’ to sign Hojbjerg from Southampton before he ended up at Tottenham instead.

Ten Hag claimed to have spoken to Højbjerg on multiple occasions ahead of a potential move to Amsterdam.

That move didn’t happen but, three years on, Ten Hag now has another chance to sign Højbjerg after all.

It’s a connection we made earlier this summer, highlighting Højbjerg as a potential signing to help bolster Ten Hag’s midfield options.

Fans may prefer Amrabat but that history with Ten Hag makes a late move for Højbjerg seem very realistic.
