Tottenham Hotspur could let Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave this summer – and that may grab Erik ten Hag’s interest.
Manchester United may well be in the market for another midfielder this summer should the opportunity arise.
Casemiro was outstanding in his debut Premier League campaign and will be vital for United moving forward.
There were issues in midfield whenever Casemiro was unavailable though.
Neither Fred nor Scott McTominay are really cut out to serve Casemiro’s role, with United needing more of a true holding player.
Add in that Marcel Sabitzer may not stay after his loan from Bayern Munich ended and United may well push for a midfield signing.
Landing somebody with Premier League know-how who can play either alongside Casemiro or as cover for the Brazilian.
Finding that kind of play isn’t easy but Erik ten Hag may just find a Tottenham player very appealing.
Tottenham may axe Ten Hag favourite Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
90Min reported just a few days ago that Tottenham are ‘open to offers’ for midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Ange Postecoglou is coming in as Tottenham’s new boss and is weighing up whether Hojbjerg really fits into his approach.
We know what you’re thinking – if Tottenham want rid of Hojbjerg then why would United want him?
Erik ten Hag could be the key though.
Ten Hag coached Hojbjerg at Bayern Munich, working together during the 2013-14 season with Bayern’s second team.
Hojbjerg featured 14 times under Ten Hag, bagging four goals and one assist in Germany’s fourth tier.
The connection doesn’t end there though; Ten Hag tried to sign Hojbjerg for Ajax back in the summer of 2020.

Ten Hag was quoted as saying that he ‘really wanted’ to sign Hojbjerg from Southampton and spoke to him on numerous occasions.
Tottenham ended up winning the race but Ten Hag had full belief in Hojbjerg to improve the Ajax team having loved working with him at Bayern.
Ten Hag has already shown a willingness to target players he has worked with before, including Antony and Lisandro Martinez.
Hojbjerg would fit a similar bill as a Premier League-proven player who can fulfil an important squad role like Sabitzer.
Add in that Hojbjerg would already know how to play with another United midfielder – Denmark teammate Christian Eriksen – and he could slot into Ten Hag’s setup nicely.
This wouldn’t be a flashy or exciting move, but if Hojbjerg is available this summer, Ten Hag may just be tempted.
