Manchester United now want ‘special’ France international as Ruben Amorim ‘priority’ made clear

Manchester United continue to be linked with potential left wing back signings following the appointment of Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim did exactly what we expected in his first game as Manchester United boss.

Amorim used a 3-4-3 system at Sporting and brought that same approach to his debut against Ipswich Town.

United started well thanks to Marcus Rashford’s early opener but struggled to keep the pressure on and could only draw 1-1.

Amorim wants United’s control to improve moving forward as United learn to play his style and system.

The new United boss is still learning about his squad and figuring out just where he needs to improve in the two 2025 transfer windows.

Manchester United want AC Milan star

A new left wing back is surely a priority for Amorim as he makes the switch to 3-4-3.

Diogo Dalot was not at his best in that position on Sunday afternoon, Luke Shaw cane on as a left-sided centre back and Tyrell Malacia’s injuries make him somewhat unreliable.

Left wing backs continue to be linked with United and another can now be added to the list.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claims that United are interested in AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez.

Plettenberg claims that United’s search for another left wing back is ‘in full swing’ as a new signing there is Amorim’s ‘highest priority’.

Hernandez is ‘on the list’ for United with his Milan contract coming to an end in 2026.

United may believe that Milan can be tempted into selling Hernandez inside the final 18 months of his deal.

L’Equipe suggested in May that Milan would need an offer of around €80million (£67million) and United would certainly need that valuation to come down in 2025.

Theo Hernandez record for AC Milan

United will be seeking a left wing back who can make a big impact going forward and still be strong defensively.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is on the United radar but Hernandez has been performing at a very high level for many years now.

The former Real Madrid man has turned out 227 times for Milan and has racked up 31 goals and 41 assists.

That kind of record would be decent enough for some wingers, never mind some full backs or wing backs.

Hernandez has been branded ‘special’ by Paolo Maldini, as noted by Football Italia, and his record at the San Siro has made him one of the top left backs in the game.

Hernandez would be an enormous coup but with Nuno Mendes set to stay with PSG, United will be wary of being used as leverage for a new contract.
