Manchester United invested in two new centre backs over the summer but are still being linked with more defensive options.
Big money has been spent on defenders at Manchester United in recent years.
Harry Maguire stands out but United have also paid up for the likes of Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez over the last 10 years.
United’s hit rate at centre back hasn’t exactly been stellar though and that meant two more defenders were signed over the summer.
United paid £38million to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, reuniting him with Erik ten Hag in the purpose.
United also signed Leny Yoro, paying up to £52million to bring the French wonderkid to Old Trafford.

Manchester United eye Premier League defender
Ruben Amorim has now brought a 3-4-3 system to United and centre backs will be vital to his approach.
Lindelof and Jonny Evans are likely to move on at the end of the season and United may seek additional options at the back.
Luke Shaw’s injury woes mean another left-footed defender could be on the wish list come the summer.
Tuttomercatoweb now report that United are showing an interest in signing Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen.
Huijsen was previously on the books at Juventus and spent time on loan with Roma, with his future still making headlines in Italy.
It’s stated that United are now interested in Huijsen and are prepared to rival Real Madrid for his signature.
Huijsen joined Bournemouth in an €18million (£15million) summer deal and has already shown huge promise in the Premier League.

Who is United target Dean Huijsen?
Huijsen was born in the Netherlands but his family moved to Spain when the defender was just a kid.
That means Huijsen actually came up in the Malaga ranks before being plucked by Juventus at 16.
Huijsen featured for the Juventus Next Gen team but managed just one first-team appearance before being sent on loan to Roma.
Jose Mourinho predicted big things for Huijsen as the 6ft 5in defender featured 14 times for Roma before Juventus decided to sell him to Bournemouth.
Huijsen has started to make a big impact and actually scored for Bournemouth against United in December, right in front of Amorim.
United were linked with Huijsen in 2024 and could now return for the 19-year-old, viewing him as competition for Lisandro Martinez on the left side of defence.
