However, one target is poised to slip through the net with Sam Curtis on the verge of joining a Premier League rival…
Manchester United to miss out on Sam Curtis
Reports in November indicated that United were battling bitter rivals Manchester City in the race to sign St Pat’s Athletic teenager Curtis.
The 18-year-old helped St Pat’s Athletic win the FAI Cup in November but was expected to move on shortly afterwards.
United were in the mix to land Curtis but he won’t be arriving at Old Trafford according to the latest reports.
The Sheffield Star report that Sheffield United are now ‘close’ to completing the signing of Curtis having moved to the front of the queue for his signature.
It’s understood that Curtis watched Sheffield United against Luton Town on Boxing Day ahead of completing his move to Bramall Lane.
Blades coach Keith Andrews – a former Ireland international – is thought to have been vital to Curtis picking a switch to Sheffield.

Who is Sheffield United-bound Curtis?
Curtis spent time with Parkvilla and St Kevin’s Boys in Ireland before heading to Shamrock Rovers in 2019.
St Pat’s Athletic pounced in 2021 and have given Curtis plenty of first-team football at such a young age.
Curtis has played 60 first-team games, winning the FAI Cup twice already and winning a host of individual awards.
Primarily a right back, Curtis is being backed for a future and boss Jon Daly has called the teenager ‘exceptional’.
Curtis appears to have focused on first-team prospects with his new move, believing that there will be a better route to senior action at Sheffield United than at Old Trafford.
United may keep tabs on Curtis going forward though as he could be ideal for a move to Manchester down the line, if he continues to develop with this move to England.
