Manchester United are facing a major battle for St Pat’s Athletic defender Sam Curtis but a January transfer is now expected.

We aren’t expecting to see United splash the cash in January, even with Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to come on board.

United spent big over the summer and may stay patient in January to save up for more summer spending in 2024.

We could see United make a move though, with one talent for the future appearing to be a very real target…

Manchester United target Sam Curtis expected to leave

St Pat’s Athletic talent Sam Curtis was linked with United earlier this month as a battle with Manchester City was touted.

90min offer an update as they claim that St Pat’s now ‘fully expect’ Curtis to leave the club before the new Irish season starts.

The 2023 campaign only ended earlier this month with St Pat’s beating Bohemians 3-1 in the FAI Cup final.

Now on a break until February, the expectation is that Curtis will move on – and a switch to England in January seems likely.

United are again mentioned as being a potential destination for Curtis, but the list of suitors just seems to be growing and growing.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic and Leeds United are all mentioned, meaning United face a real battle to secure Curtis in January.

United target Sam Curtis profiled

Curtis started out with Parkvilla and St Kevin’s Boys before heading to Shamrock Rovers in 2019.

The 17-year-old spent just two years there before joining St Pat’s Athletic, where he has become a first-team player.

Primarily a right back or right wing back, Curtis has already played 60 first-team games for St Pat’s and has even featured in Europe.

Curtis has also picked up seven Republic of Ireland Under-21 caps, playing well above his age range.

Boss Jon Daly has called Curtis ‘exceptional’ and the expectation is that he will become a star in the coming years.

United may well believe that Curtis can become a first-team right back down the line, and will be trying to sell him on that idea ahead of the January window.
