Manchester United are now interested in a Premier League raid with Nottingham Forest’s Danilo on the Old Trafford radar.

Midfielders continue to be a real priority for Manchester United this summer.

United want to add legs in midfield and Manuel Ugarte has been a key target throughout the window.

A deal has not been easy though and United have backed away from Ugarte with alternative targets in mind.

Burnley’s Sander Berge has been linked and the Norwegian was even left out of their squad to face Luton Town on Monday.

The former Sheffield United man – who is admired by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – will be one name to keep close tabs on in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Nottingham Forest ace on Manchester United radar

United will have a number of names in mind and one may already be in the Premier League.

Reports from Brazil now suggest that United are interested in snapping up Nottingham Forest ace Danilo.

TNT Sports reporter Rodrigo Fragoso claims that Danilo’s agent has received enquiries from both United and AC Milan.

No offer is on the table as things stand but Forest would be open to selling for around €40million (£34million).

United have dealt with Forest in recent times, including the sale of winger Anthony Elanga to Forest last summer.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson also spent time on loan at Forest from United during the 2022-23 season.

United may hope that those deals have strengthened ties with Forest and opened up the possibility for the signing of Danilo.

Who is Manchester United target Danilo?

Danilo hails from Salvador in Brazil and spent the early stages of his career with Bahia, Jacuipense and PFC Cajazeiras before being spotted by Palmeiras.

A loan move ended up becoming a permanent deal with Danilo turning into a vital first-team player.

Danilo racked up more than 140 appearances for Palmeiras and helped the club win the Copa Libertadores not once but twice.

Nottingham Forest pounced in January 2023 and the 23-year-old has now bagged six goals in 49 appearances for the club.

Danilo started 20 Premier League games last season and came off the bench in another nine, so he has carved out an important role at the City Ground.

Former Forest boss Steve Cooper was certainly a fan of Danilo, praising him to The Athletic back in April of last year.

“He is an exciting player; an exciting prospect and somebody I’m trying to manage carefully in terms of the exposure we give him,” said Cooper. “That means we must play him as well when we feel it’s right for him.

“You want a quick impact when you sign a player, but sometimes when young players come to clubs, it can be months before they even get a game. We are really happy with him,” he added.

Danilo is something of an all-action midfielder and has admitted that he admires Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, moulding his game on the Frenchman to an extent.

“Kante is a different player because of what he does on the field: he’ll run, get the ball and come back, he never tires,” said Danilo, as quoted by Goal. “He is is one of the players I watch most at Chelsea and the one who inspires me most,” he added.

Danilo is far from the finished product but United may believing that he can be developed in Erik ten Hag’s engine room for years to come.
