Manchester United make contact in race to sign ‘fantastic’ Champions League star, he wants Premier League move

Manchester United fans may have to settle for a fairly quiet January, but will be looking for a much bigger summer window.

The final week of the January transfer window is upon us and Manchester United will hope to get one signing done.

Reports suggest that United are closing in on Patrick Dorgu after positive talks with Lecce.

The Dane is viewed as a natural fit as a left wing back under Ruben Amorim and United will look to push that deal over the line.

United aren’t expected to do too much more incoming business though and the attention may start to turn towards the summer.

Generally speaking, United aren’t big spenders in January windows but there will be expectation on Ineos to spend this summer.

Manchester United make contact for English sensation

United need reinforcements across the pitch and Amorim will surely want new attacking talent.

Marcus Rashford has been exiled and Alejandro Garnacho could yet leave United whilst Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are yet to convince.

Attacking players will likely to be linked with United sooner or later and reporter Sacha Tavolieri has told Sky Sports that Jamie Gittens is on the Old Trafford radar.

Tavolieri claims that Gittens wants a Premier League move this summer and United have ‘already approached his entourage’ to discuss a move.

Chelsea and Liverpool are keen too with United seemingly looking to steal a march by making early contact.

Reports earlier this month highlighted United’s interest in Gittens and that seemingly isn’t going away.

Dortmund tend to rake in big fees for their young stars though, as United found when signing Jadon Sancho in 2021.

Gittens may well be valued in a similar kind of range by Dortmund and United will need to cough up to strike a deal.

Jamie Gittens position will spark questions

Gittens is certainly a talented young player.

The 20-year-old has hit 11 goals and five assists in 28 games this season, emerging as one of Dortmund’s shining lights in a testing season.

Now-sacked Nuri Sahin has hailed Gittens as a ‘fantastic player’, as quoted by BVB Buzz.

A left-sided but right footed winger who was born in the south of England and spent time in the Manchester City ranks but thrived at Dortmund… we can understand comparisons to Sancho.

That move didn’t really work out for United and whilst Gittens is dazzling in the Bundesliga this season, we would doubt that this is the right move.

Gittens is a pure winger and part of the reason for Garnacho potentially moving on is that he is a natural wide man.

Amorim’s two players behind the striker tend to operate more centrally and that’s something Gittens hasn’t really done so far.

Maybe United believe that Gittens can grow into that kind of role, but paying an enormous price tag to find out just doesn’t seem wise in United’s current situation.
