Manchester United reportedly made a deadline day loan offer to sign ACF Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who was one of the stars of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to VoetbalPrimeur, Nordin Amrabat, Sofyan’s brother, revealed that the Red Devils came in with a late bid to sign Amrabat, who had been widely tipped with a move to FC Barcelona in the final days of the January transfer window.
Amrabat said on United’s interest in his brother: “I can name three clubs that were really concrete in the last days. Manchester United came in the last two days. They wanted to loan him with an option to buy. But, that fell through because Fiorentina didn’t want this sort of deal.”

With United losing Christian Eriksen to an injury in late January, it makes sense why the Manchester side made an attempt to sign Amrabat on loan, though as we know, Erik Ten Hag ultimately ended up bringing in Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich, a deal that has worked out well for the Red Devils.
Indeed, things could have been much different had United landed Amrabat, though, with the Moroccan international named in FIFA’s Team of the Tournament for the World Cup as the midfielder guided the Atlas Lions to a historic semi-final finish in Qatar.
As we know, though, Sofyan Amrabat stayed in Florence having failed to win a big-money move that many predicted for the Serie A star. However, news of United making a bid in January could hint at another attempt from the Red Devils in the coming months.
Manchester United should look to sign Amrabat in the transfer window

Amrabat was won of the best players out in Qatar and has remained one of the most consistent midfielders in Italy with Fiorentina, and with United set for another summer of overhauling the squad, the Moroccan dynamo could be a perfect signing for the Manchester side.
With the likes of Scott McTominay widely expected to leave Old Trafford, Amrabat would be a quality midfield addition that could challenge and even succeed Casemiro in the defensive-minded role, with Fiorentina seemingly ready to cash in on their 26-year-old superstar.
