Manchester United loanee Amad witnessed a piece of Sunderland club history during their FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.

Amad shared a pitch with 15-year-old whizkid Chris Rigg, who came off the Sunderland bench to make his professional debut.

This came just days after Rigg was linked with a move to Manchester United, The Sun reported.

The midfielder is an England under-16s captain, and he made his debut for the final 10 minutes of the weekend game, with Sunderland 1-0 down. They went on to win 2-1.

Rigg’s involvement was no response to being linked to Manchester United. He had previously been named on Sunderland’s bench for Championship fixtures.

Tony Mowbray told Sunderland’s website: “He’s in the team because he’s good enough.”

His early debut would however help Sunderland’s cause for sizeable compensation if United were able to lure him away.

Having missed out on top youngster Jude Bellingham in the recent past, United will want to be at the front of the queue for Rigg, if he is of a similar calibre.

In recent seasons United have swooped on Sunderland to sign promising talents Joe Hugill and Logan Pye, who are part of the Red Devils’ under-21 squad.
